A recent analysis by the World Health Organization's (WHO) expert committee on vaccine safety has once again confirmed that vaccines do not cause autism. This finding, based on extensive research and evidence, should put to rest any lingering doubts or misconceptions.
The Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety (GACVS), a highly respected body of international experts, has been monitoring vaccine safety since its establishment in 1999. Their latest analysis, discussed in November 2025, focused on two key areas: the relationship between thiomersal-containing vaccines and autism spectrum disorders (ASD), and the broader association between vaccines and ASD.
The evidence, drawn from 31 primary research studies published between 2010 and 2025, spanning multiple countries, is clear: vaccines used during childhood and pregnancy are safe, and there is no causal link to ASD. This conclusion is further supported by a large cohort study analyzing data from children born in Denmark between 1997 and 2018, which found no association between the trace amounts of aluminum used in some vaccines and ASD.
But here's where it gets controversial: despite this overwhelming evidence, vaccine hesitancy and misinformation persist. The GACVS has reaffirmed its previous conclusions from 2002, 2004, and 2012, yet some individuals and groups continue to spread misinformation, endangering public health.
And this is the part most people miss: the impact of vaccine hesitancy goes beyond autism. Childhood immunization is one of the greatest public health achievements, saving at least 154 million lives over the past 50 years. It's a global effort that has improved lives, livelihoods, and the prosperity of societies.
