The Florida Panthers, back-to-back NHL Stanley Cup champions, visited the White House on Thursday, two days before their road trip concluded. The Panthers, who defeated Edmonton to win the Stanley Cup last season, returned to Washington to face the Capitals. The team's victory over Edmonton in the 2025 Stanley Cup Final set the stage for another White House visit. During the ceremony, the Panthers presented President Donald Trump with a No. 47 jersey, championship rings, and a golden hockey stick. Trump, who flashed the rings and waved the stick, highlighted the team's achievements, including the first-ever Presidents' Trophy and three straight finals appearances. He also noted the team's success in denying Canada the Stanley Cup, despite the U.S. having 'a little competition' with its neighboring nation. Panthers left wing Matthew Tkachuk expressed pride in representing the team and the country, stating that nothing beats being an American and being part of the Panthers' success. Tkachuk also looked forward to playing for Team USA in the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Panthers' visit included the display of the Stanley Cup, which was also presented to Trump during their last visit. The team's current standing in the NHL's Eastern Conference is 12th place, with players Tkachuk and Brad Marchand dealing with recent injuries. However, both players could be back on the ice as soon as this weekend.
